Scholarships

Several opportunities for scholarship funding are available due to the generous contributions of ACPM members who have committed to advance the specialty of preventive medicine, recruit the next generation of preventive medicine leaders and support early-career physicians. Learn more and apply below for opportunities available to Resident and Student members.

Jacob and Heather Adams Resident Scholarship

Background

The Jacob and Heather Adams Resident Scholarship fund was established by (Michael) Jacob Adams, MD, MPH, and Heather Adams, PhD. Drs. Adams’ generosity toward the College reflects their desire to support resident education, particularly in epidemiology and patient safety research, and continued scientific presentations at the ACPM annual conference.

The Adams’ Resident Scholarship Fund seeks to assist promising, but financially disadvantaged, ACPM resident members enrolled in a preventive medicine program (or combined program) to attend the ACPM annual meeting in order to advance their education and career. Residents are eligible if they are ACPM resident members in an ACGME accredited program or combined program. Funding will be provided to selected individuals to cover expenses for attending and participating in the ACPM annual meeting.

Criteria

  • Current ACPM Resident Member
  • Resident in a preventive medicine residency program (combined programs accepted)
  • Demonstrated interest in getting involved in the College and advancing the field of preventive medicine and public health
  • Commitment to join one ACPM committee/task force, as needed
  • Commitment to provide a testimonial on “What participation in the ACPM annual conference means to me…”
  • Letter of recommendation

Considerations

A number of factors will be considered when reviewing submission letters. Applicants should use the submission letter to highlight these areas, if applicable:
  • Hardship for travel and funding
  • Details on submitted or scheduled oral presentations or scientific poster at the ACPM annual conference
  • Moderator participation at the conference
  • Involvement in the College (i.e., service on an ACPM committee or task group)
  • Community engagement to support preventive medicine and public health

Requirements

  • Applicants should submit the following two documents via the submission link on ACPM.org. Please log into your ACPM.org account to ensure contact information is prepopulated on the form.
  • Cover letter addressing the criteria and considerations outlined above.
  • Letter of recommendation

Applications for the scholarships close on January 16.
